Directory Cache

With the purchase of a Feature Pack for our custom firmwares startup times of the RNS-E can be improved dramatically using Directory Cache.

About Directory Cache

Directory Cache is automatically activated when an SD Card is inserted into the RNS-E. The card will be scanned for MP3s and playlists in the normal way.

Thereafter, as long as the SD Card is not removed, next time the RNS-E starts the cached directory structure will be used instead of re-scanning the card.

Directory caching improves the RNS-E startup speed by around 4 times. This is particularly useful when combined with larger SD Cards with big MP3 collections.

If you want to disable the Directory Cache feature, delete the dircache.dat file and set the write-protect switch on your SD Card.
