Converting North America RNS-E Units to Europe
Instructions and tools for converting NA RNS-E to EU units.
Please note that converting units and performing a PRG Clear, as with any firmware update, is not without risks. These procedures have been tested on NA 192 and 193 models. However we advise that you undertake the conversion process entirely at your own risk.
Converting 192 Units - NA -> EU
Loading the EU firmware to a NA unit is easy. Simply use the Engineering Mode PRG Clear function:
- Insert a CD or map DVD containing the required alternate region firmware*
- Perform a PRG Clear
Converting 193 PU Units - NA -> EU
Converting 193 units is slightly more complex and requires special update CDs to be prepared. We provide a selection of ISOs here to perform the conversion process.
Note that a converted unit will still have the boot loader of the original unit. As such if the boot loader's recovery mode is ever triggered (following a bad flash or PRG clear for example) it will require a special hybrid recovery CD.
Convert NA -> EU
Use this procedure for an initial conversion. The firmware present in the update is the last official release from Audi for EU units: 0220
After upgrading standard EU navigation media and firmware update CDs can be used. However note the warning above about performing a second PRG Clear.
Revert converted unit to NA
Use this procedure if you ever wish to convert a unit back to original NA firmware. The firmware in the update is the last official release from Audi for the NA units: 0230
Standard NA navigation media and firmware update CDs can be used, and a PRG Clear can be recovered with a standard NA firmware. No need for the special recovery firmware below.
Recover converted NA unit to EU
Should you ever find a converted unit which is stuck in the boot loader emergency recovery mode* ("Check DVD" or "Insert Original DVD" screens) you will need a recovery disk.
* Note: This can be the result of performing a PRG Clear on a converted NA unit in EU mode. It can also happen as a result of a bad or incomplete software update on an unconverted unit. On unconverted units use a regular navigation DVD or software update CD to perform a recovery.
